Taj Mahal is the most famous monument of India. It is considered as one of the seven wonders of modern world. Every year millions of tourists from all over the world travel to India, mainly to see Taj Mahal. However few are aware of many amazing facts about this monument. We are ready to bet even you would be unaware of most of them...Have a glimpse...
It took more than 22000 people and 20 years to build this monument. This monument was built as a mausoleum by Shahajahan who was a Mughal emperor for his wife Noorjahan. Noorjahan was his third wife and she died during the birth of their 14th child.
When Taj Mahal was completed, there was so much wood and logs left behind in the compound that it would have taken many weeks to remove those. The emperor declared to the public of Agra that wood could be taken free by them. Within few days all the wood had been taken away by the public.
The Taj Mahal takes on different colouring at different times of the day, from a pinkish hue in the morning, milky white in the evening and golden at night when lit by the moon. They say the changing colour resembles the changing mood of females - in particular the Emperor's queen.
During his last days Sahajahan used to see Taj Mahal from his room in Red Fort where he was under house arrest. It is said that he was so much depressed after the death of Noorjahan that his hair and beard turned while within few months of her death.
Taj Mahal is so well designed that in case of a earth quake the four minarets won't fall on the main dome. They are inclined few degrees outwards. The center of gravity of the four minarets meet at the same point and are in line with the main dome. To maintain the beauty, several wells are created on the Yamuna so that the flow of water would remain near the Taj Mahal.

The walls of Taj Mahal were adorned with precious and semi precious stones. Britishers later looted those and took it back to England.
Shahajahan wanted to build a black Taj Mahal for himself across the Yamuna River. The base was made, and it is still present but never completed. His sons were fed up with his spending and imprisoned him.
